Getting to Know Each Other; Technology

Welcome onboard! We will start the course by getting to know each other, seeing where you stand, create an individual plan and setting expectations of the course together with you. 

In this first week of the Advanced English Speaking and Listening course, we will explore the theme of Technology. You will express your personal opinions on various technological advancements and their impact on society. We have included two engaging audio recordings for you that are discussing the latest innovations and ethical considerations in technology, and one thought-provoking video showcasing the helpful hackers. Throughout the week, you'll complete self-assessment tasks to evaluate your understanding and fluency. Additionally, you will participate in an interactive activity where you will debate the pros and cons of social media with your peers, enhancing your critical thinking and communication skills.

Nourishment

In this week you will engage in discussions where you choose between two contrasting opinions on issues such as organic versus conventional farming, or plant-based diets versus meat-inclusive diets. This will help you practice articulating well-reasoned arguments and considering multiple perspectives. By the end of the week, you will enhance your ability to critically evaluate and discuss diverse opinions on nourishment, improving both your listening comprehension and speaking skills.

Employment and Career 

In the third week of the course you will practice describing, comparing, and contrasting different career paths, job roles, and work environments. This will enhance your ability to articulate detailed observations and nuanced differences effectively.  Interactive activities will include a group exercise where you will compare and contrast different career options based on criteria such as job satisfaction, work-life balance, and growth opportunities. By the end of the week, you will have improved your descriptive and analytical speaking skills, as well as your listening comprehension, enabling you to engage more deeply in conversations about employment and career choices.

A Matter of Fact

In this week we will focus on developing your ability to contemplate aloud, encouraging you to think deeply and articulate your thoughts on factual information and real-world issues. Interactive activities will include a thought-provoking session where you will practice contemplating aloud about various topics, such as the importance of facts in decision-making or the impact of misinformation on society. This will help you improve your ability to express complex thoughts clearly and confidently. 

Environmental Protection

In the fifth week of the Advanced English Vocabulary course, the focus will be on vocabulary related to Working life. You will learn idioms, phrasal verbs, and collocations commonly used in professional settings. The curriculum also covers synonyms and opposites pertinent to work-related contexts. Through practical exercises and real-life scenarios, you will develop the ability to communicate more effectively and naturally in discussions about careers, workplaces, and professional experiences. 

Journeys

In the sixth week of our Advanced English Speaking and Listening course, we will explore the theme of Journeys, focusing on the benefits and drawbacks of different types of travel experiences. You will engage in discussions about various journeys, considering both the positive aspects and challenges they present. Interactive activities will include listening comprehension tasks where you will match audio clips with descriptions of different travel experiences. Additionally, you will participate in speaking exercises where you will discuss the benefits and drawbacks of each type of journey, sharing personal insights and opinions. By the end of the week, you will have enhanced your vocabulary related to travel, improved your ability to express opinions clearly, and strengthened your listening skills in the context of varied travel experiences.

Learning for Life

This week's lesson is designed to integrate speaking tasks that encourage you to reflect on lifelong learning experiences and discuss their significance. You will engage in conversations about the importance of continuous learning, personal development goals, and strategies for acquiring new skills throughout life. The week includes integrated speaking tasks where you will participate in discussions and presentations related to various aspects of lifelong learning. These tasks will encourage you to articulate your thoughts clearly and engage meaningfully with the topic. 

Future Generations

This final week's lesson begins with broad discussions on global issues affecting future generations, such as environmental sustainability, technological advancements, and socio-economic inequalities. By the end of the week, you will have developed a deeper appreciation for the interconnectedness of global issues and their impacts on future generations. You will also have strengthened your speaking skills by moving fluidly from general discussions to specific examples and solutions, preparing you to engage thoughtfully in conversations about shaping a better world for generations to come.
