The third week of the course provides you with a comprehensive understanding of advanced verb usage in Active and Passive Voice. You will also study various non-finite forms such as infinitives, gerunds, and participles. You will learn how these forms function within sentences and how they differ from finite verb forms. We will also cover the various patterns and structures that verbs can follow in sentences, as well as the different types of verb patterns, such as transitive and intransitive verbs, as well as patterns involving infinitives, gerunds, and participles. You will gain proficiency in recognising and using these patterns to construct clear and grammatically correct sentences, with the interactive activity focused on discussing vegetarianism with other English learners using various verb patterns.

This week you will delve into a subset of English grammar that deals with auxiliary verbs used to express various degrees of necessity, possibility, permission, ability, and obligation. These verbs, known as modals and semi-modals, play a crucial role in shaping the meaning of sentences and conveying nuances in communication. You will learn many grammatical structures and functions of modals and semi-modals, the various meanings and nuances conveyed by different modals and semi-modals, and common collocations and expressions involving modals and semi-modals. This weeks interactive activity will focus on practicing modal verbs by giving advice.

This week will focus on adverbs and adverbial clauses. Understanding adverbs and adverbial clauses enhances your grasp of sentence structure, enabling you to create more nuanced and coherent sentences. By integrating adverbs and adverbial clauses effectively, you will develop the skills to convey precise information about actions, conditions, and circumstances; thereby enriching your writing and communication abilities. Adverbial clauses contain a subject and a verb and provide information about time, place, reason, purpose, condition, or manner. Through practice, you will gain proficiency in recognizing and constructing adverbial clauses to enhance sentence structure and convey more complex meanings. This weeks interactive activity will be to make up a story chain using time clauses.

By the end of the sixth week, you will have a deeper understanding of substitution and ellipsis in English and be better equipped to use these concepts effectively in your language production. You will explore the syntactic and semantic constraints that govern the use of ellipsis in English. Furthermore, you will learn when and how it is appropriate to omit information from sentences and how to do it effectively. The interactive activity will focus on discussing your favourite movies through the use of Substitution and Ellipsis.

This week starts off with an introduction to emphatic structures in English, where you will learn how these structures are constructed to place emphasis on certain elements of a sentence, such as subjects, objects, or action. You will explore various types of emphatic structures, including the use of pronouns, adjectives, adverbs, and demonstratives for emphasis. You will also learn about the placement of these elements within a sentence to achieve the desired emphasis.

In the final week of the course, which is focused on the subjunctive mood, students will have consolidated their understanding of both the present and past subjunctive tenses. The emphasis will be on practical application and mastering the usage of these subjunctive forms in various contexts. The last interactive activity will delve into the potential health benefits of aromatherapy using the Present Subjunctive.

An online live group session will be held, interacting with other students to have a final review of all the material. Once the final test is completed, you will receive a Certificate of completion!
